Extra material needed for the 2010 exam - Chapter 26

This page lists the material from the old Edexcel syllabus which isn't covered by my new Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry book. Unlike the other pages in this section which are specific to one chapter, this one includes material which could cover most of Section E in the book.

Using experiments to work out equations

The old syllabus has a statement which says that students should be able to:

"recall quantitative experiments, including direct mass determination, the use of standard solutions and the measurement of volumes in reactions involving gases, to determine the relative numbers of particles involved in chemical reactions"

I have no idea at all what they want for this! It is quoted in the syllabus in ordinary (as opposed to bold) type, which means that it is suitable for Foundation Tier candidates, and yet the calculations involved in it include material that is only supposed to be accessible to Higher Tier candidates.

I have been back through all the exam papers that I have access to (including the alternative to Coursework papers), and can't find a single question which relates to this statement. And given its vagueness, neither can I see how they could ask a question which is simply a "recall" of an unspecified experiment without using a piece of extended writing.

So I think this is probably a waste of time, but I have attached a pdf file which shows you how this could be done in a couple of random examples. I've done this as a pdf file rather than directly as a browser page, because writing calculations as internet pages is a complete pain!
